Have you been having problems at work, or school? Yes, you may have noticed it and not been able to put your finger on it; but something is happening to people. They're changing. Yes, you may be noticing the growing evil in the world in your own life: Your fellow students judge you, isolate and label you. You have a boss who sets you up to fail, who him or herself is failing, or having an affair with a co-worker, or embezzling from the company, or lying, or harassing. You have a neighbor who fights with you or a person driving behind you who tailgates you and flashes their lights. You have a family member who hurts your feelings, who ridicules you, makes you feel worthless, who is jealous of you and vengeful. You have a fellow church member who is gossiping about you. People, of course, have been treating each other like crap since the beginning of humanity...but we, and others, have noticed that things are getting worse. People seem desperate; desperate to have something. The problem: they don't know what it is.
There is an energy of some sort building in this world which is making people crazy. They seem to be taking one of two directions:
1. To the world.
2. To the spirit.
For those of you who are Christians, you may want to remember the words of Jesus Christ: Jesus answered,
My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm." John 18:36
If you are Buddhist: “
Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”-Buddha
Those who are seeking refuge in the things of the world are becoming more terrified than ever. Many of them claim to know God and even worship in churches; but they know no peace because they seek it amongst the dark corners. Even the Pope has recently spoken out on the dangers of consumerism with respect to the young, but it holds true for all:
"...they don't go after the true meaningful things in life. Adolescents, youths and even children are easy victims of the corruption of love, deceived by unscrupulous adults who, lying to themselves and to them, draw them into the dead-end streets of consumerism."
Recent examples of the desperate state of the human condition include: The recent mass murder in an Omaha shopping mall. The story of a youth who was seen holding a gun in the mouth of a dog in the UK. Authorities surmised that the dog had been
tortured in a prolonged attack. Hate is fear; as fear grows so does hate. You will see more and more evidence of the desperation emerge in your local news and in your personal life. Many have their fingers coiled in agony as they hang on the precipice of the cliff of their worldly aspirations. They kick and grimace, dangling there on the verge of "failure".
Your mission is to choose the right path. There is no one you can control but yourself. We quote Buddha once again, "
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become." Find a way to spirit: it's the only way to survive
